The Accursed Thing

In Joshua 7 we learn about Achan and the accursed thing. God gave Joshua instructions to go into battle. Prior to this time, Israel miraculously won battles —even when they were much smaller than the opposition. Israel won because God intervened. Yet, in this battle with Ai, Israel lost 36 men and were chased off of the battle field because of Achan’s disobedience.

If you read Joshua 7:7 you will hear Joshua in conversation with God. In that conversation, Joshua insinuates that God did not keep his promise to protect Israel. Joshua blamed God when Israel did not receive God’s customary and promised protection. He soon learned God was not to blame(7:13). The blame rested with Achan, a member of Israel’s camp.

There is a lesson for our lives in this story. If you have been waiting on God to perform His promise in your life . . . there is nothing wrong with God. He can and wants to deliver your promise to you. Meanwhile, you may want to check and be sure you are obedient to God’s instructions. Do you have anything in your life that God told you to release?

There are strategic and pivotal times when it is a requirement to adhere to the parameters God set in place . . . that is, if you want to receive the promise God has for you!
