There is a popular song by Erica Campbell with a line that says, “This world has been slowly falling under the weather.” From the first time I heard that line, it was yet another reminder of the spiritual and moral decay of the United States. As I reflected on the condition of our country and God’s obvious displeasure; the account of Abraham’s conversation with God in Genesis 18:19-32 came to mind.
When God revealed the situation with Sodom and Gomorrah to Abraham, Abraham took it upon himself to ask God if he would destroy the cities if there were at least 50 righteous people in the land. God said he would spare the cities if 50 righteous people were found. Eventually God told Abraham he would spare Sodom and Gomorrah even if only 10 righteous people were found.
As we know, Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed with only Lot, his wife, and his two daughters escaping destruction. That’s right ...out of two whole cities there were only 4 people who pleased God!
What am I saying? God is calling us to: recognize his authority, repent, and pray. God sometimes calls us with pain. Can you hear God calling?
