In John 9:1-34 we have details about a blind man who was healed. This account presents the blind man as an ordinary guy – without great means or affluence. The Pharisees were only interested in this man because Jesus healed his sight. Verse 34 gives us a peek into how the Pharisees regarded the man who was born blind as they said, “… You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” As they sent him away, surely the man did not feel important to them.
As I read this text, I thought of how much God wants all of us to be in good health, regardless of our financial standing or what others may think about us. In the eyes of God – the life and well-being of a poor person, known only to their family and friends, is equally as important as the life and well-being of a rich person, known all over the world.
As we enter this political season and the election of new officials, let’s remember the importance of all of humanity. Step back from personal prejudices long enough to hear from God. The best decisions are made when they are aligned with God’s guidelines for living. For everyone who says they don’t hear from God . . . read his word. He is speaking all the time! Be blessed
Do not rob the poor, because he is poor,
or crush the afflicted at the gate,
for the Lord will plead their cause
and rob of life those who rob them.
