When God told Abraham he would be the father of many nations it was implied that Abraham would father at least one child. (Gen 17:7) The problem was, he and his wife did not understand how God would come through. Along the journey Abraham tried to preserve his own life when he told Abimelech Sarah was his sister. (Gen 20:2) Abraham did not know God had already put a safeguard in place to protect him. When Abraham allowed Sarah to live in Abimelech’s house, pretending to be Abraham’s sister — God’s protection was in place. God gained Abimelech’s attention by causing his wives to become barren.(Gen 20:17) He also threatened Abimelech’s life and charged him to return Sarah to Abraham.(Gen 20:4-7) I find it interesting that Abraham was not forced to approach Abimelech and admit Sarah was his wife.
Not only was Sarah restored to her husband but Abimelech also gifted Abraham with riches (sheep, oxen, and servants). Ain’t God all right? When Abraham moved in obedience to God – even though he later lied about his relationship with Sarah – God was his protection.
In the same way, when you and I operate in obedience to God – don’t worry about being perfect. When you have a heart for God – perfect is not required. God will use your obedience to bless you. It’s all in his plan!
Be blessed
