Some say: “Once saved, always saved.” How would you feel if you met someone one time and afterwards, they repeatedly say the two of you are best friends? If you only meet a person one time you might not even recognize them when you see them again. They certainly might not recognize you!
In John 10:9 Jesus says:
“I am the Door; anyone who enters through Me will be saved [and will live forever], and will go in and out [freely], and find pasture.”
The notion of going in and out of a person’s door indicates a close knit relationship. It seems Jesus is not expecting us to meet him once and go on about our lives without him.
Suppose your favorite singer, comedian, or politician was in town and you have the rare opportunity to meet with them. During that meeting they provide you with their personal contact information and request you to stay in touch … especially if you need something. Would you contact them again?
The difference between a human being and God is this: What a person can do for you is limited. What God can do is without limits.
