In Mark 7:7 Jesus says people honor him with their words – yet their heart does not honor God. The heart of a person is the essence of that person. It capsulizes your unique spirit and character.
When the content of your heart is formed -- it is made manifest through your daily thoughts and behavior. What is in your heart drives your behavior. In Mark 7:21-23, Jesus says:
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
That covers a lot! Evil/devil behavior is a result of minimizing or eliminating the forces of good/God in your life and allowing the forces of darkness to dominate your mind. How does this happen? Take inventory of how much time you spend with the word of God, in prayer, in meditation, and the things of God. How much time do you spend on a daily basis in the things of God? Now take inventory of the time you spend on things outside of Godly teaching, prayer, meditation, Christian music, or Christian conversation. As you take inventory – exclude work time. Only take inventory of your free time.
Relationship with God must be nurtured. If you rarely spend time with God, your heart towards God will change. What is in your heart is a clear reflection of who you are deep down on the inside. The question we face each day is: “Does my image reflect God/good?” Your answer is lived out each day!
Be Blessed!
